The Story of Pudgy |
She was so overweight that upon arriving on our little farm, we had to tilt Pudgy’s traveling crate so she would roll out… she was too thick to turn around in the crate to walk out on her own.
And so began our adventures with Pudgy.
Apparently after attacking their pet Sheltie, Pudgy’s first family gave her up for adoption. She was in quarantine at the Ironwood Pig Sanctuary when we met her. Of course, to imagine this pig attacking anything was just silly; she could barely walk as her chin and belly dragged on the ground. She’s lost considerable weight in her time here, but still holds on to those last few stubborn pounds! What’s a girl to do?!?
Over the nearly 3 years she has graced our yard, Pudgy has been the source of great amusement and folly. Actually a small pig as far as Potbellied Pigs go (that’s in height and length…not girth), Pudgy is not one to take her personal space lightly… we often hear her bellow in aggravation when another pig intrudes on her meal, nap, wallow, or air.
While considering new holiday card ideas two years ago, Pudgy became our cover girl… adorned with reindeer antlers, the card told the story of how Pudgy saved Christmas. Not to be forgotten the next year, Pudgy joined the Army to help soldiers in Iraq… PFC Pudgy was the talk of the holiday season again.
And her fans scream for more!… Today, with Pudgy's calendar, we're able to help Pig Sanctuaries all over the United States by donating a portion of the proceeds to these wonderful organizations.
